Super Milly

These fun and educational kids activities are inspired by the brilliant Super Milly and the Super School Day written by Stephanie Clarkson. These activities are about believing in yourself, the power of kindness and that you don’t need to be able to fly to be a superhero!

These activities are easy to try at home and perfect for any superhero loving kids. Let them get creative and turn themselves into a nature superhero, get creative with colours and explore their own personal strengths!

Colour Mixing

We did this activity on a hot summer day and was lovely to keep us busy and cool inside. My son absolutely loved this activity and was completed engaged with it. He needed reminding to clean his paintbrush in between but made some lovely colours. As he explored the colours, I kept reminding him that red, blue and yellow were the primary colours and you can make most colours from these. I wasn’t convinced he had been listening because he was so focused on mixing the colours. However, over lunch, he informed his Daddy that red, yellow and blue were the primary colours. It was a proud Mummy moment.

Super hero mask

This activity was such a hit with our children. First we headed outside to collect lots of natural bits to use in our craft. Then once we got back inside we got glueing. F chose to put her natural bits into different zones by colours mainly. She was very clear on where she wanted what. M focussed on symmetry, creating a beautiful design using leaves and flowers. They both couldn’t wait to put them on and had to try them on before the glue had had a chance to dry. The following day they used their masks to become superheroes in the garden!

Super hero Spoons

This was an activity that our children were so excited to do. The idea of creating their own character from their wooden spoon. The making part was simple, easy and fun for both my 3 year old and 6 year old. My two have currently decided not to draw on a mouth but think they will be tempted to add this soon. Once created and the glue had completely dry it was time to take our super spoons off on an adventure! They raced around the garden flying their spoons as they went. The super spoons saved characters stuck in trees and protected animals. Now where to take the super spoons next?

My superpowers

This art activity for us led straight on from the colour mixing activity. But this can easily be saved for another day too. This is a very simple effective piece of process art to try with kids. I think the unveiling when they peeled off the washi tape was one of their favourite moments. To reveal those sharp white lines underneath. Discussing their super powers was probably my favourite part of this art activity. Through this we created their very own affirmations. They were both almost shy at first to say what was great about themselves. But with a little encouragement they both started to really think about their own strengths and how great they both truly are. We will display their art work visible so that we can keep looking at their affirmations to help them really take these on board.

colour mixing potions

This easy activity was such a hit with both of my kids! It was inspired by our other colour mixing activity from our Hero subscription box. They both found it amazing when their brush cleaning water changed colour so I wanted to give them the opportunity of making different coloured water. For this I only added a very, very small amount of the powder paint to a jar of water. Gave them several empty jars to make their potions in and a stick each and that was it! We did also then add in the pipette from our January box as a way of only adding a small amount of a particular colour. They were both so impressed with the colours they created and they enjoyed being colour scientists so much! They kept wanting to do more and more so we found extra jars and have kept some of their colours to attempt some watery painting later! Would highly recommend trying this easy art activity although would suggest attempting outside if at all possible!

ICY rescue

Mixing a small amount of the powder paint with some water, I added my son’s Paw Patrol figures into little silicone cases and placed these in the freezer.

Using the pipette from the January Snowy Day box, my son rescued his Paw Patrollers with warm and cold water. He quickly realised that the warm water was more effective in melting the ice and saving his pups. This activity is an absolute favourite here and one that we repeat on a regular basis.

sticky rescue

Using the washi tape we had leftover, I sellotaped my son’s pups to a log slice. It was his job to then save them. As the activity above this has become a firm favourite in our house.
