Our May Activities!

star shaped box filled with wishes. Crafted by kids

Our activities for your investigators!

This month your children will be:

  • Creating their own star wish box

  • Designing and making their own wishing coins!

  • Using what they have learnt in school to solve three maths challenges to defeat the wish snatcher!

Crafting with older children is enormously beneficial to their mental health, it boosts their self-esteem and speech and language development, builds on their fine motor skills and develops their creativity.

Through crafting children are able to able to express themselves and we find that when their hands are busy they are much more likely to share their own thoughts and feelings.

We have also written three fun maths challenges linked closely to the story. In our experience making learning more meaningful and memorable ensures that they remain motivated and engaged in their learning.

Together with this month’s book, this box gently explores themes of hope, fear, wishing and family.

Our activities for your Explorers!

This month your children will be:

  • Designing and making their own Rainforest diorama

  • Making a rainforest picture

  • Crafting their own leopard footprints

  • Making their own leopards

All of this month’s activities culminate in making a Rainforest diorama which your child will then be able to play with and retell the story through.

We are huge fans of small-world play here! Small-world play encourages our children to be creative, use their imaginations and develop their speech and language.

In addition, it exposes them to a whole new world of fictional play where they can explore new concepts and engage in role-play.

Don’t forget to have the words of the month poster nearby to encourage your children to use the rich language in the book in their play. You’ll then start to notice them use these words in their speech and then in their writing!
