Earth

Here are our top tips for completing the fun, educational activities from our Earth box. These nature themed activities are inspired by the brilliant book The Girl who Planted Tree. These simple, nature themed activities are perfect to try at home with kids. These educational activities will help your child gain a deeper understanding and respect for the natural world around them.

Growing Basil

  • It is really easy to pour too much water when making up the compost. I will always give my son the exact amount of water he needs.

  • It is important to keep the soil moist whilst waiting for them to germinate.

The Water Cycle

windsock

  • Please remember to bring your windsock in at night, otherwise the moisture may damage it.

Wildflower bombs

  • It’s surprising how little water you need to make these bombs. If your mixture does get too wet, just leave it out in the sun for a bit so that some of the water evaporates.

  • My son did not enjoy touching the wet seed bombs mix, so he used two spoons to form them into bombs.

  • I had some baking paper left over from the Nature Explorers box so I used that to line a tray with to dry the seed bombs on.

  • They will need a few days before they are completely dry. We dried ours in front of a window.

Fun activity to teach about rain

Rain clouds

  • Since doing the water cycle activity, my son has become fascinated with clouds and when it will rain. This was a simple and fun activity to teach him about how clouds become heavy.
