Autumn Tuff Tray

This autumn tuff tray sensory idea is perfect in autumn when there are so many treasures waiting to be collected and explored outside. My two love getting outdoors and finding various bits and no autumnal walk is complete without having to pick up something along the way. This autumn tuff tray is the perfect way to use all those collected treasures and give your children an opportunity to explore and play with them at home.

Set Up

So onto my tuff tray I put leaves, sticks, conkers, acorns, wood slices, apples and mushrooms. These were all things that we already had at home and all things that we had seen and collected whilst exploring outside. The mushrooms were shop bought. I also added our wooden people so that they could use the tuff tray as a small world play opportunity.

First of all the girls explored all the different elements in the autumn tuff tray and competing to find different bits. Then they started to use it as a autumn small world. Creating their own narrative as they played. They happily played independently with this for quite some time.

The girls enjoyed their autumn tuff tray and they kept coming back to play with it over the week. Each time they found something new outside it was added to the tray. This is a great way to encourage toddlers and older children to explore nature and gave us an opportunity to discuss the different items they had found.
