Land of the Dinosaurs

A very appealing small world dinosaur activity for any dinosaur lover no matter what age, or even those who have never played with dinosaurs before. This fun activity will get toddler’s and children’s imaginations and creativity firing. It was a huge hit with my two and kept them busy and learning.

Set Up

This small world dinosaur activity was surprisingly easy to set up once I had decided what to include in the under bed storage box like this one from Amazon. We have a basket at home that we have collected over time with natural bits and bobs in, Ie. the wood slices (which you can buy here), conkers, pebbles and pine cones. I had an old pot plant where the plant had died, so I poured the soil in from there. Grass cuttings, twigs, gravel and a couple of larger rocks that are on the edge of a plant bed all went in too. Then it was just a case of adding the dinosaurs that I had bought for M here. And it was ready. It really doesn’t need all of this though. Whatever you have to hand will work.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as a reaction from the girls when they saw this dinosaur small world. Well it’s safe to say they loved it. To start off, with they both decided that they needed to go on a dinosaur rescue mission. The dinosaurs that I had planned to be hiding under the greenery and twigs were actually apparently trapped. M and F took great delight in finding and then freeing them. Next came feeding time for the dinosaurs, who were all apparently herbivores. Then F decided it was time for them to sleep. So they set about making beds for the dinosaurs on the rocks using the leaves.

Toddler Dinosaur Activity
Dinosaur play at home

After playing with the dinosaur small world for a while, M decided to get the garden tools They both started mixing and digging the gravel and soil in the hunt for the dinosaurs. This was an activity that I had to tear them both away from for dinner. So to persuade them to stop playing, we have kept it set up outside. Although, due to rain, there is now also a swamp in the land of the dinosaurs but that has just added to their fun! All in all a great fun, small world dinosaur activity to keep them busy and learning.
