Thomas the Tank Engine at Christmas

My 2 year old is a huge Thomas the Tank Engine fan. I wanted to create a Thomas the Tank Engine Small World Activity which would encourage his storytelling skills. This activity did not disappoint. My son was blown away with this activity and spent bedtime telling his Daddy all about it!

Set Up

Unfortunately I can not take credit for Tidmouth Sheds. My husband had built this from an old cardboard box which had been in our recycling.

I built this Thomas the Tank Engine in our tuff tray, used our Brio tracks to create the railway network and our Thomas the Tank Engine characters. The snow is desiccated coconut and the hay bale is a shredded wheat. The farm animals are from our toy box and the Christmas trees, reindeer, snowmen where from a previous small world activity.

My two year old loved this Thomas small world activity. He immediately started playing with it; saying hello to all the engines, driving them around the track, narrating where they were going and then telling them it was time for "‘sleepy time in shed.’

My toddler spent all afternoon playing with this activity and spent bath time telling his Daddy all about it.

This activity was quick and easy to tidy up and I simply swept up the the desiccated coconut and put it into a tupperware container to use again. This Thomas the Tank Engine small world was a huge hit and we will definitely be doing this again.
